How to list an item on Rentsome and get your first booking
Photos that get clicks, a description that answers the questions renters actually have, and the approvals and payout setup you need before the first request arrives.
Listing takes a few minutes on the web or in the app, where our AI drafts the title, category and a suggested price from a single photo. Getting booked takes a little more thought. Here is what separates listings that rent from listings that sit.
Before you start
- Verify your email. Listings can only be published from a verified account.
- Set up payouts. Connect your bank through Stripe in Settings so you can approve requests — approvals require a payout account.
- Items declared above $500 in value require identity verification to list; do that in the app first if it applies.
- Rentsome is for personal items only. Homes, rooms and motor vehicles cannot be listed and are removed automatically.
Photos that get clicks
- 1Shoot in daylight against a plain background. A driveway or a clean floor works.
- 2Lead with the whole item, then add close-ups of controls, accessories and any wear.
- 3Include everything that comes with it in one shot — the case, the cables, the attachments.
- 4Skip stock photos. Renters want to see the actual item they will pick up.
A description that answers the real questions
Renters want to know four things: exactly what model it is, what is included, what condition it is in, and any rules. Cover those in short lines. Mention consumables (fuel, blades, batteries) and whether they are included, and say how you like it returned. Honest notes about quirks build trust and prevent claims later.
Price and declared value
Set a daily rate you would pay yourself — how to price an item has a method. Enter an accurate replacement value: it sets the renter’s deposit (30% of value for new accounts, down to 10% at the top trust tier, capped at $2,000) and it is what a claim is measured against.
Instant Book or approve each request?
By default you review each request and see the renter’s trust score and verification status before approving. Instant Book confirms requests automatically and tends to win bookings from renters comparing two similar listings. It suits low-risk items; for higher-value gear most owners prefer to approve manually.
Location and pickup
Renters only ever see your city and a rough area. Your exact address is stored privately and shared with the renter once you approve a booking. Set a pickup spot you are comfortable with — the end of a driveway works — and agree a time window in messages.

Frequently asked
How fast should I respond to a request?
Within 24 hours. Requests expire if unanswered, the renter’s authorization is released, and slow responses lower your response rate, which feeds your trust score.
Can I decline a request?
Yes, with a reason the renter will see. Their card authorization is released immediately and nothing is charged.
What if I need to cancel after approving?
The renter is refunded in full. If you cancel within 72 hours of the start, a 30% cancellation penalty is recorded against your payouts, so only approve dates you can honor.
Turn what you own into income.
Listing is free. You approve every renter.
