Where to rent folding tables and chairs for a party

Every gathering over about twelve people runs out of seating. The options are an event-rental company, a party-supply store, or a neighbor who bought a stack of tables for their own party last year and has them leaning against a garage wall. They differ more on minimums and delivery than on the furniture itself.

Your three options

• Event-rental companies deliver, set up and collect. They are the right call for a hundred guests, and the wrong one for twenty: most have order minimums and delivery fees that dwarf the furniture cost.
• Party-supply and big-box stores rent by the piece for pickup. Convenient, but you are limited to what they stock and to store hours for pickup and return.
• Neighbors on Rentsome list the tables and chairs they own. You pay a daily rate per set, pick up nearby, and the total is shown before you confirm. Best for a backyard party, a shower or a graduation.

Getting the count right

1. 1Seat everyone who will sit at once. For a meal, that is every guest; for a mingling party, about 60% of them.
2. 2A standard 6-foot folding table seats six for a meal, eight if it is a buffet stop. An 8-foot table seats eight to ten.
3. 3Add one table for food and one for drinks. They fill faster than you expect.

At pickup and return

• Count every piece and photograph the stack. Note the count in the booking chat so both sides have it.
• Check that table legs lock and chairs are not cracked at the hinge.
• Ask about cleaning. Wipe tables down and fold everything the way it arrived.
• Return on time. The next family may be picking up that afternoon.
